Important Information for the Esthetician
Waxing is a process that temporarily removes unwanted body hair. It involves applying wax with a spatula to an area of the body.
The two waxing materials used in My Waxing System by Dominique Hermes
-Hard Wax or the non-strip method
-Soft Wax or strip wax
While waxing is a quick, efficient method of hair removal, it should be noted that, unless waxing is administered correctly, a percentage of hairs in the anagen (growth) stage may reappear just days after a treatment.
During the client consultation session, a number of items must be discussed, both to protect the treatment center and to alert the client to any situations that might prevent waxing.
A. Going from shaving to waxing, an important step
B. Talking with your client about the consultation card.
C. Wax T° and Double dipping
A.From shaving to waxing: The big but smart change…..
Waxing removes hair from below the skin, often at the root without destroying the root.
Shaving is a technique that makes the hairs thick and course. Continual waxing removal may cause the papilla to become weaker, therefore causing extended periods between re-growth and a reduction in hair growth. When a client start to wax, she or he will need 3 waxing treatments to achieve the results of waxing.
The hairs will appear much thinner and less!

C.Wax T° and Double dipping
Wax should be applied on intact skin!
T° of waxes
!!Check very well the t° of the wax, this can be done by using an oven-safe thermometer, which tells if the wax is on a safe and acceptable temperature! Try the wax on the inner part of your arm to test if the t° is right.
Hard Wax My Waxing System: 145°F to 150° F= 62,7°C to 66,5°C
for Brazilian waxing:,140°F = 60°C
Strip Wax My Waxing System: 160 F to 165°F = 71°C to 73,9° C
Any wax applied to a client shall not be reused and must be discarded. To prevent cross contamination all wax and cloth or paper strips applied to a client must be discarded.
The Metal Spatula ( My Waxing System) must be cleaned( Equipment Cleaner MWS) and disinfected with a low-level disinfectant after each client.
Technicians should follow their state license board requirements!
Wooden spatulas must be discarded after each client.
Roller applicators must be cleaned ( Equipment Cleaner MWS) and disinfected with an intermediate level disinfectant between clients. Roller heads must be taken apart, cleaned (Equipment Cleaner MWS) and disinfected with intermediate level disinfectant between clients!!
Double dipping
Technicians should follow their state license board requirements!
Double dipping is when the technician takes wax from the pot on a spatula, applies the wax on a client and returns the spatula to the pot for more wax.
Many state cosmetology boards do not allow double dipping!
The t° of the wax is the most affective and comfortable at around 140°F= 60°C to 165°F = 73,9°C.
Bacteria are not killed at temperatures below 40°F, as the temperature reaches 140°F, the bacteria start to die.
The fully heated pot is too hot making it hostile for bacterial growth! Bacteria need moisture for growth, and there is no moisture in depilatory wax
Pasteurisation (159°F= 70°C ) makes the Hepatitis B virus inactive, there is little to no risk of spreading HBV, nor HIV. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) does not consider this situation to be enough of a risk to even warrant testing for disease transmission due to waxing.
There is always wax between the spatula and the skin, the same situation occurs during the application of nail polish. The polish never touches the nail bed, which makes it acceptable to use the nail polish from one client to another.
Technicians should follow their state license board requirements!
